5 th Asia-Pacific Regional Air/Internet Jamboree 1 - 2 August 2009 The Air-Internet Jamboree is a Regional event in which Scouts can contact each other by amateur radio and the internet. It's the excitement of having a live conversation with a fellow Scout at some other place in the world that attracts so many to this event. The Air-Internet Jamboree is a real Jamboree during which Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared. It's a unique opportunity for Scouts in all age ranges to discover that they belong to a worldwide movement. BEACH EROSION, A VULNERABLE SCENARIO IN THE MALDIVES MAEED MOHAMED ZAHIR 26 Geographical Atolls with over 1190 Islands, Maldives is situated in the in Indian Ocean, at the heart of the Equator. These islands famous for its tourism are indeed in peril. Vulnerable to the huge waves, the low lying states are barely above mean sea level facing threatening consequences for its very existence. These islands face grave danger of beach erosion and land loss. The country with its ever increasing population of over 300,000, distributes itself into 198 inhabited islands. Over 100 islands are used as tourist resort and the remaining are uninhabited. Some of these islands are used as Airports and for agricultural purpose. The geographical setups of these islands make them unique and dynamic. Every island has its own unique beach. 23rd ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL SCOUT CONFERENCE 27 October - 1 November 2009Ku ala Lumpur, Malaysia The 23rd APR Scout Conference will be hosted by Persekutan Pengakap Malaysia from 27th of October 2009 to 1st of November 2009 at the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The conference assures of convenient facilities and wonderful service giving the participants only the best of Malaysian hospitality. 26th APR SCOUT JAMBOREE 29 December 2009 - 3 January 2010 Laguna, Philippines The 26th APR Scout Jamboree will be held at the Makiling National Scout Reservation Camp, in Mt. Makiling, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines to be hosted by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP). Mount Makiling is located in the province of Laguna on the island of Luzon, Philippines. The last 25th APR Scout Jamboree, held in Sattahip, Thailand, from 28 December 2005 to 3 January 2006, has gathered over 10,000 Scouts from 36 countries. JAMBOREE THEME: “Scouts create a better world” Epitomize the spirit of Solidarity, Harmony, Altruism, Respect and Equality (SHARE) among Scouts of APR despite variances in race, creed and beliefs; that if all people in this world live the Scouting way, together we can create a better world.

Climate Change: World's Top Security Challenge - President Nasheed

President Nasheed called on Commonwealth countries to unite to tackle greenhouse gas emissions, warning that climate change is the "greatest security and human rights challenge of the 21st Century." Addressing 250 Commonwealth parliamentarians gathered at the British parliament in London on Monday morning, President Nasheed urged Commonwealth nations to take the lead in cutting carbon dioxide emissions, responsible for global warming and associated sea level rise. "In every battle you have a frontline. And in the climate change battle, the Maldives is a frontline state. Maldivians have lived in these islands for 2,000 years and we don't want to trade paradise for an environmental refugee camp. But climate change not only threatens the Maldives it threatens us all. What happens to the Maldives today happens to other countries tomorrow."
