*taken from: www.ecocare.mv Maldives in among those small Island states that are very vulnerable to Climate Change and rising sea levels. 26 Geographical Atolls with over 1190 Islands, Maldives is situated in the Indian Ocean, at the heart of the Equator. These islands famous for its tourism are indeed in peril. Vulnerable to the huge waves, the low lying state is barely above mean sea level facing threatening consequences for its very existence. The average elevation of the country is just 1.5 meters above sea level, and no natural ground in the country exceeds 2.3 meters above sea level.

Youth Involvement in Scouting - Maldives: National Rover Scout Council (NRC)

Concept Paper 2 National Rover Scout Council (NRC) Introduction Youth Involvement is an area in Scouting that has been debated and discussed throughout the scout world. Involving Youth or to be specific Young Adults (18-26) has been a priority at regional as well as world level in Scouting. Scouting is a Movement FOR the youth therefore it’s only fair that young adults or the youth have a say in the decisions that are made that will directly or indirectly effect them. As a movement that works to create a better society that will lead ultimately to create a better world, with its purpose to create better citizens by giving its youth members leadership skills and citizenship training it is essential that youth be given priority and status within the movement. At world level there are Youth Advisors elected for the World Scout Conference to be members of the World Scout Committee to raise Youth issues and give their opinions and suggestions to the decisions that are made for the better

Concept Paper 1 National Scout Youth Forum Introduction Scout Youth forums provide opportunities for the young people in scouting to express their views and make recommendations on issues that interest them, enabling them to develop the skills necessary to strengthen their capacity to take part in decision making process. Youth forums provide opportunity to the national and local levels; to listen to the views of young members on issues concerning them. Proposed Youth Forum Concept for Maldives Provincial OR Regional Youth Forum: The geographical distribution of Islands in Maldives makes it difficult for organizing any major scale event in the county.

Youth Involvement in Scouting - Maldives: Introduction

Introduction There are three age groups in Maldives that the Scout Association Maldives target its programs; the Cub Scout age group (7-12), the Scout age (12-18) and the Rover Scouts (18-26). Membership growth is one of the key issues that the Scout Association of Maldives is facing today, in terms of leaders as well as in youth members. One of the prime reason is because the scout association has paid very less attention to the adolescents or young adults; the Rover age group. This has led to the loss of membership and increase dropout of members in the movement.
